The scandal of Katie Rees

The scandal is almost as old as the beauty pageants themselves; beautiful, smart girls with a bright future ahead of themselves gain recognition through beauty pageants but then end up in trouble with the law. The latest story to surface of this happening can be seen in how Katie Rees has been arrested in Las Vegas and is being held in the Clark County Detention Center according to FOX5Vegas.com.

The irony of this news is that Katie Rees has been stripped of her crown two years ago back in 2006, after some provocative photos were found of her. Back then she was appealing to Donald Trump for a second chance, which never happened. It was unfortunate, because Katie was just one of many who had been lost the crown in this way, most notably Vanessa Williams back in 1983.

There are, of course, other beauty pageants contestants that have been in the trouble with the law, Mexican Beauty Queen Priscila Perales was arrested for drunk driving back in Dec of 2007, and Kumari Fulbright was arrested on Jan 10 for kidnapping and torturing her ex-boyfriend. She had competed for Ms. Arizona back in 2005 and 2006.

Three bright girls with a promising future, two of which you probably have never heard of before but all share something in common. Katie Rees tried, unsuccessfully, to redeem herself and even sue over her racy photos, Priscila Perales had actually already won the 2007 Miss International title, the fourth largest in the world, and Kumari Fulbright is still trying to find her way as she is free on bail, but allowed to attend her family reunion, though still suspended from law school.
